Abstract

This chapter explores the critical role of external environmental analysis in fashion entrepreneurship. It introduces the Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Ecological (PESTLE) framework, PESTLE, as a structured approach to understanding the macro forces that shape market opportunities and risks. The chapter guides students through evaluating each PESTLE element in relation to fashion ventures, highlighting how these factors influence consumer behaviour, supply chains, regulatory compliance and brand positioning. It also covers competitor analysis, offering tools to identify direct, indirect and benefit-based competition. By engaging with this chapter, students will develop the analytical skills needed to assess market viability, anticipate challenges and make informed strategic decisions in a dynamic global fashion landscape.
