Introduction
Abstract
The introduction opens with the observation of a contemporary trend of performances in museums and poses the question of its historical origins. It situates the book within current debates and perspectives in art history and performance studies and then outlines its conceptual framework and defines key terms such as “performance” and “museum.” The introduction presents the book’s central argument that the relationship between performance and museums is not primarily confrontational but productive. It also introduces three core analytical perspectives that structure the study and guide its inquiry.
