Governmentalist Power
Abstract
In this chapter, I turn to the third form of power investigated by Foucault—governmentalist power—understood as that form of power which is aimed at orienting in the aggregate the dynamics of a targeted population by designing measures and contexts that exploit their natural, spontaneous tendencies. I highlight the affinities between governmentalist power as conceptualized by Foucault and the subsequently investigated nudging techniques and their reliance on the design of choice architectures.
