Abstract

This chapter explores the principles, structure, and internal dynamics of the Intervision group that took place in Ukraine during the war. The Intervision group model is a peer-based supervision group developed initially in the UK and has shown a significant positive impact on clinical work and experiences of mental health practitioners in diverse therapeutic settings. We explore the distinct identity of the Intervision group in Ukraine, especially in its impact on group members' involvement in volunteer work with military personnel and their families. We further explore the group's impact on clinicians themselves. Central to the functioning of this Intervision group is a shared sense of patriotism among participants and a capacity for tolerating profound distress in presented cases while remaining attuned to individual emotions, transference, and countertransference. Among the key influences of the group was its support for participants' containment of the terror-inducing feelings experienced by their patients.
