Abstract

This chapter explores multimodality as a transformative approach to ethnographic research. It argues for a shift toward multisensorial, performative, and inventive practices that reshape ethnography into a more collaborative and public activity. To this end, the chapter examines how multimodal strategies such as ethnofictional filmmaking, collaborative data platforms, hackathon-style workshops, or open-access multimedia digital publications offer innovative ways of producing and sharing knowledge across different media platforms and publics. The challenges associated with these shifts are considered and discussed.
