Case study
Abstract
This study explores the long-term digital and in-person ethnographic research of In America: Remember , a major COVID-19 memorial by artist Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg. Our team, Rituals in the Making, has collaborated on this hybrid commemoration since 2020, examining its interplay between physical and digital remembrance. Our multimodal ethnographic research revealed a mirroring effect between the installation’s physical and digital elements and highlighted our collective engagement with mourners and volunteers as a form of collective research-as-activism.
