Abstract

This chapter presents a case study of a WhatsApp group, Dhusia Samaj Jodo Manch , created by the marginalized Dalit caste community, Dhusia, in India. With an ambiguous caste status and erased micro-histories, the Dhusia community uses digital platforms to foster solidarity, assert Dalit identity, and challenge hegemonic caste discourse. Based on anthropological inquiry, this study examines how digital mobilization facilitates matrimonial connections, cultural exchange, and collective consciousness. Through shared messages on morality, history, and spiritual devotion, this WhatsApp group highlights the intersection of caste, identity, and digital activism in contemporary India.
