Abstract
This book is based on an analysis of two local communities in Poland: Powiśle in Pomorskie Voivodeship 1 and Lower Lusatia in Lubuskie Voivodeship. The largest cities in both regions are of similar size: Kwidzyn and Żary each have a population of about 39,000, while the other cities each have a population of several thousand. In addition, the counties of Żarski and Krosno are home to 7 of the 10 border crossings in Lubuskie Voivodeship. 2
