Abstract

This chapter presents a tutoring memoir based on the tutor’s recollection of a tutorial experience that led to Carson’s promotion to fourth grade along with a trajectory toward continued school success. When Carson, a student early in his third-grade year, was threatened with retention because he was forecasted to fail an upcoming high-stakes gateway test for the fourth grade, a tutorial intervention was undertaken. The narrative also includes Denise, who is Carson’s Mom and Carson’s reactions to the events described in the memoir, along with the tutor’s interactions with the tutee, the family, and the school site professionals.
