Abstract

This last chapter weaves together threads running through the earlier text, drawing parallels between the three sample geographical areas—Europe, India, and the United States/African Diaspora—while also highlighting key theoretical issues. Looking at turning points within struggles helps one understand their successes and failures. The links between movements illustrate global patterns and highlight influences. The chapter concludes with a call for further research and an analysis of the overall significance of these struggles over revolutionary tactics. The question of whether or not to use violence sometimes was sincerely debated and at other times brushed aside, yet it would frequently reemerge, whichever path a movement took. This decision is important, is deeply consequential to the outcome of a struggle, and continues to be relevant into the foreseeable future.
