Abstract

Children&s;s palliative care is a specialised, active approach focusing on holistic care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions; supporting both the child and their family from diagnosis onward. This care aims to enhance quality of life and is delivered in various settings, notably children&s;s hospices, which provide respite and family support rather than solely end-of-life care. Children&s;s palliative care within hospice settings is a unique specialty characterised by intense emotional labour due to long-term relationships with children and families facing life-limiting conditions. Nurses must balance empathy with professional integrity, managing self-disclosure and emotional involvement carefully.
