Disenfranchised Grief
Abstract
Disenfranchised grief refers to losses that are not socially acknowledged or supported, particularly affecting healthcare staff such as nurses who care for critically ill or dying patients. This form of grief can lead to emotional burden, burnout, and complicated grief, if unrecognised and unsupported. Addressing disenfranchised grief in clinical settings through empathetic leadership and targeted interventions is essential to support healthcare workers’ mental health and improve workforce retention.
