Abstract

Emotional intelligence (EI) is increasingly recognised as a crucial skill in nursing, particularly in managing emotional labour and interpersonal relationships in clinical environments. This chapter provides a detailed overview of EI theory, its historical development, and key constructs, based on Goleman&s;s model. It connects Goleman&s;s theoretical constructs to case studies from Part I of this book and provides detailed strategies for developing each EI component, emphasising their importance in managing emotional labour and improving children&s;s nursing practice.
