Abstract

Chapter Objectives Understand problems associated with the measurement and evaluation of instructional effectiveness in activity-based settings. Describe traditional methods of evaluating teachers, and explain why these methods lack objectivity and reliability. Identify systematic observation methods used for teacher evaluation, and explain the advantages these methods have over the traditional methods. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the data-collection procedures associated with event recording, interval recording, duration recording, and group time sampling. Define interobserver agreement (IOA), and explain why it is critical to establish IOA when using any type of systematic observation. List and describe instructor and participant behaviors that can be observed using systematic observation.
