A garden as a multispecies archive
Abstract
The Jan van Eyck Academie is a multidisciplinary post-academy dedicated to exploring the agency, roles, and civic significance of art, design, and other creative practices in relation to the climate crisis, environmental breakdown, and their manifold effects. By offering residencies to artists, designers, writers, curators, and architects from across the globe, the Academie fosters a diversity of practices while rethinking its model of hospitality in light of the transhistorical and transcultural entanglements of contemporary urgencies. In this conversational chapter, Giulia Bellinetti, Head of the Nature Research department and Coordinator of Future Materials at the Jan van Eyck Academie, advances a series of reflections on how art institutions may not only acknowledge but also act upon their implication in these urgencies.
