Abstract

This chapter begins with a brief contextualisation of the first design principle of permaculture – observe and interact – followed by a general translation of this principle into art institutional practices. This translation lays the groundwork for discussing how specific cross-cutting challenges are interpreted and applied by European governmental funding bodies and art institutions. The discussion moves from a macro- to a micro-perspective, culminating in a detailed examination of Tensta Konsthall and its reciprocal relationship with its local context: Tensta, a suburb of Stockholm, Sweden.
