Abstract

Buro Stedelijk, inaugurated in 2022 within the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam under the co-curatorship of Rita Ouédraogo and Azu Nwagbogu, constitutes a hybrid institutional model comprising Central, Studio, and Offsite programmes extending into urban and transnational spheres. Since December 2023, Rita Ouédraogo has been leading and curating Buro Stedelijk, further consolidating its direction and vision, steering its evolution as both an autonomous platform and an integral museum component. In this dialogue with curator Rita Ouédraogo, whose practice foregrounds experimental methodologies across archives, coloniality, diasporic epistemologies, institutional critique, and socially engaged artistic practices, the conversation interrogates Buro Stedelijk’s infrastructural logics as both cultural production site and catalyst for reimagining contemporary art institutions’ epistemic and political boundaries.
