Abstract

This chapter further develops the notion of learning design complexity by presenting a detailed analysis of two contrasting designs. One is a redesign of a level 4 (first year) module that took about 80 hours to create a new design, prepare new materials, and allow time for staff buy-in as the seminars were delivered by a large teaching team. The second design, at level 7 (postgraduate), took nearly 15 years to evolve through a continuous process of choreography to the point where the module became extremely successful, producing high levels of engagement and achievement. This design facilitated an understanding of the more complex designs.
