Abstract

While the ultimate use of forensic science is in the criminal courtroom, there are many important advantages of forensic science without regard to admissibility in a criminal trial. Forensic odontology is especially useful in the identification of human remains. Death certificates are important administratively for private matters and public health purposes. Although generally not permitted for private employers, the use of polygraphs may be valuable for obtaining or keeping government employment or for civil purposes. Drug testing may be used for employment or safety purposes without regard to any criminal use.
