The Constructed Media Reality
Abstract
Chapter 5 “The Constructed Media Reality” positions the present study within the extant body of literature examining framing processes in Anglo-American, Hong Kong, Chinese, and Taiwanese Chinese-language media accounts about the handover. It indicates how media reality is constructed, discusses the factors contributing to a divergence between the unfolding events and their coverage, and engages with the indictments of ‘Western’ media accounts of the handover.
