Abstract

The competitive environment in international marketing is rapidly evolving because of globalization, advancements in technology, and shifting consumer preferences. Businesses that operate internationally face diverse and multi-faceted challenges, including geopolitical factors, cultural differences, and regulatory environments. This chapter highlights the crucial dimensions enabling internationalizing firms to establish and maintain competitiveness. For instance, the rise of e-commerce and data analytics-driven digital transformation has revolutionized the nature of competition and enhanced the way in which businesses interact with customers across diverse regions. To maintain competitiveness, firms adopt various strategic approaches, predominantly involving global standardization, localization, or a combination thereof, referred to as glocalization. Emerging challenges—such as protectionism, sustainability requirements, and digital disruption—necessitate continuous innovation and adaptability. Success hinges on firms’ ability to balance global and local strategies, adapt to technological change, and embed sustainability within their operations.
