Institutional logics analysis of management and leadership in higher education
Abstract
This chapter proposes a method for institutional logics analysis of management and leadership in higher education, grounded in a synthesis of relevant literature on organisational leadership and management, as well as on the application of the institutional logics perspective in higher education research. It highlights three essential elements for a robust methodology to conduct institutional logics analysis within higher education management and leadership: (1) clearly delineating and differentiating multiple logics operating in the higher education field; (2) integrating institutional logics analyses across various aspects of higher education management and leadership into a coherent framework; and (3) exercising caution when applying this analytical approach in non-Western contexts.
