Abstract

This case study outlines an online escape room as an example of game-based learning in legal education. It was used in a legal research module to develop referencing and online legal research skills. The case study shows that an online escape room can help provide an engaging environment for students to practice legal research skills and replace a physical field trip to a law library. The lack of research in this area is noted, and the process and challenges involved in the creation of online escape rooms are explained. Finally, the case study gives some top tips in the creation of online escape rooms for the purpose of legal education.
