Praktyki kuratorskie w systemie studenckiej samoorganizacji – przykład pisma „Sekcja” i Galerii „Zakręt”, prowadzonych przez Sekcję Współczesną Koła Naukowego Studentów Historii Sztuki Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego
Abstract
The article presents the activities of the Contemporary Section of the Art History Students’ Research Circle at the University of Warsaw, focusing on art criticism (the journal “Sekcja”) and curatorial practice (the gallery “Zakręt” at the Art History Institute) in the early 2000s. Drawing on source materials and transcripts of conversations with individuals engaged in the Section’s initiatives— artist Pola Dwurnik, Museum of Modern Art curator Tomasz Fudala, and the Section’s supervisor Waldemar Baraniewski—the author outlines the goals and characteristics of the student group’s undertakings, seeking to analyze the significance of grassroots curatorial practices within the framework of academic art history studies, as well as the various strategies by which young curators enter the mechanisms of the art world. Tha author presents their practices in relation to such conditions as the group’s initial social capital, the given environmental context, relations with institutional structures, and the mechanisms of establishing recognition (visibility) within the contemporary art scene.
