Abstract

This study aims to analyze the vegetation cover trend of Dak Nong province based on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). NDVI data were obtained from MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) and were collected from 2000-2023. This data has a resolution of 463 m x 463 m. The methods used in the study are trend analysis and change point detection. Mann-Kendall test and Sen's slope estimator were used in trend analysis. The Pettitt method was used to detect the change points. The analysis results showed that most of the grid cells had a decreasing trend of NDVI, of which 39% had a significant decrease at the 0,05 significance level. The decreasing trend of NDVI is different between land use types, in which the crop group has a decrease of about 2,6 times higher than the forest group. The analysis results show that the change point of NDVI and the area of forest and perennial trees usually appeared in 2013. The rapid decline of forests, especially in the period 2000-2013, which was the period before the change point, caused a sharp decline in NDVI in this region. NDVI is a measure of vegetation health and land use change. The area with “Very Strongly Degraded” NDVI is 30%, indicating high vulnerability to human-caused damage to vegetation in this region.
