SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION: VECTORS OF TRANSFORMATION
Abstract
The genus Zea is represented by the only species Zea mays L. (corn), whose homeland is America, from where it was brought to Europe. It is widely used as a food product, as feed for farm animals and, in addition, serves as an important source of raw materials for industrial production.Plants, during their development period, are influenced by various stress factors. The widespread use of maize as an important agricultural crop demonstrates its ability to successfully adapt to a variety of environmental conditions.Of considerable interest is the study of plant resistance to the action of abiotic environmental factors.Stress induces a number of physiological, biochemical and molecular mechanisms that ensure the adaptation of plants to changing environmental conditions [1].In this regard, much attention is currently paid to the study of biochemical, physiological and molecular-genetic aspects of plant resistance to stress [4, 5, 6].The above adaptation mechanisms vary depending on the plant genotype, stress intensity and duration, developmental stage and age, and organ and cell type [2].The impact of abiotic factors on plants leads to a number of non-specific signaling systems in the cell. The physiological response to stress is an emergency mobilization of the adaptive potential [3].In this regard, it is important to study the stress responses of plants to drought stress in order to identify the adaptive potential of maize plants.Corn is particularly sensitive to the effects of unfavorable environmental factors, and therefore has the least resistance, at the germination stage.Since differences in the mechanisms of perception and transduction of stress signals in plants lead to different tolerance to stress, the study of the stress response allows us to identify the comparative degree of plant resistance to the effects of abiotic environmental factors. In this regard, часу.
