The Effect of Animated Educational Videos on Adolescent Girls’ Knowledge of Dysmenorrhea and its Management at MTs Nurul Falah Bolang
Abstract
Dysmenorrhea is a common reproductive health problem among adolescent girls that can interfere with daily activities and academic performance. Globally, about 90 percent of women experience dysmenorrhea, with the prevalence in Indonesia reaching 64.25 percent. In West Java Province, the prevalence is recorded at 54.9 percent. The lack of knowledge among adolescents contributes to inappropriate management of menstrual pain. This study aimed to determine the effect of animated educational videos on adolescent girls’ knowledge about dysmenorrhea and its management. The research used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 60 students at MTs Nurul Falah Bolang selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a 30 item multiple-choice questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge after the intervention. Prior to the video, most participants had a moderate level of knowledge. After watching the video, 90 percent demonstrated good knowledge. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant effect. Animated educational videos are an effective medium for increasing adolescent knowledge about dysmenorrhea and can be utilized in school-based health education programs.
