Abstract

This study was carried out to examine strategy implementation and the performance of Tertiary Institutions in South-South Nigeria..However, the declining performance of tertiary institutions in South-South Nigeria has become a growing concern, particularly as it relates to the ineffective implementation of strategic initiatives. Despite the growing recognition of strategic planning as a tool for improving institutional outcomes, many of these institutions continue to struggle with poor execution, resulting in suboptimal performance across key indicators such as academic quality, research output, staff productivity, and global competitiveness. Therefore, the specific objectives of the study were to investigate the influence of resource allocation and commitment on quality of service and efficiency of Tertiary Institutions in South-South Nigeria. The cross-sectional research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of 5 federal universities with 23288 employees of the five universities used for the study and a sample size of 393 which was determined using Taro Yamane formula for sample size determination. Data were collected using questionnaire and interview which were administered to the employees of the five universities used for the study out of which 371 copies of questionnaire were filled and returned. Data collected were analysed using simple percent, simple linear regression and multiple linear regression analyses. Findings indicated that communication, resource allocation and commitment statistically have significant influence on quality of service and efficiency of Tertiary Institutions in South-South Nigeria. It was concluded that communication, resource allocation and commitment have significant influence on quality of service and efficiency of Tertiary Institutions in South-South Nigeria. It was recommended that digital communication platforms (e-portals, mobile apps, email bulletin systems) should be introduced through the implementation feedback mechanism for students and staff. Tertiary institutions in South-South Nigeria should adopt a more strategic and transparent approach to allocating financial, material, and human resources to ensure that critical academic and administrative units receive what they need to deliver high-quality services.
