Monitoramento e remoção de resíduos sólidos submersos no Lago Paranoá, Brasília, Distrito Federal: contribuição do mergulho para os objetivos globais
Abstract
The study analyzed monitoring and removal actions of submerged solid waste carried out in Lake Paranoá (DF), Brazil, between 2021 and 2025, focusing on the contribution of diving and citizen science to the mitigation of urban aquatic pollution. Data from cleanup efforts organized by public agencies, associations, and volunteers were systematized, including the quantification, origin, and spatial distribution of the collected waste. The results indicated the removal of approximately 4,680 kg of solid waste, with 2024 standing out as the year with the highest collection volume. The analysis showed that areas with greater recreational use concentrated the highest pollution levels, directly affecting the local ichthyofauna. The integrated model between freediving and/or scuba diving and community participation demonstrated technical efficiency, social engagement, and adherence to the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals-especially SDGs 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life on Land). It is concluded that structured submerged waste removal actions represent an effective strategy for biodiversity conservation, urban ecosystem restoration, and the strengthening of socio-environmental sustainability.
