Abstract

The construction industry, as one of Indonesia's strategic sectors, faces significant risk challenges. Various activities within construction projects are inherently hazardous and highly prone to causing workplace accidents. Despite the implementation of comprehensive regulations aimed at accident reduction and safety enhancement, such as the Construction Safety Management System (SMKK) regulated by the Minister of Public Works and Housing Regulation No. 10 of 2021, accident rates remain persistently high and continue to increase annually. This indicates a significant gap between regulatory intent and on-site implementation. This suggests that preventive measures focusing solely on technical aspects are inadequate. There must be an increased focus on the individual factor—the construction worker—in accident prevention, as low Safety Awareness among workers is a major contributor to the high rate of accidents in construction projects. Specifically, in the context of high-rise building construction in Indonesia, various risks pose a constant threat to workers, making Safety and Health (K3) awareness a critical concern. This study aims to analyze the influence of construction workers' Safety Awareness on Safety Performance within building construction projects. Safety Performance in this research is measured using both leading indicators (safety compliance and participation) and lagging indicators (accident rates). The research will be conducted using a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to construction workers employed on building construction sites. It is expected that the analysis results will provide empirical evidence regarding the magnitude of Safety Awareness's influence on Safety Performance and identify the most crucial Safety Awareness indicators.
