DISTURBANCES IN THE SURFACE STRUCTURE OF TUNGSTEN SAMPLES 99.5 AND 99.7% PURITY IRRADIATED BY 0.12 OR 4 MeV HELIUM IONS
Abstract
High-purity tungsten (99.7% (W-n) and 99.5% (W-1)), was considered as a material for creating the first wall of a thermonuclear reactor. The choice of tungsten as a promising material for the first wall was determined by its high heat-resistant characteristics, low corrosion, and high radiation resistance. To understand the effect of irradiation on the properties and characteristics of high-purity tungsten, in comparison with ceramic materials and materials from special grades of steel, of samples of tungsten were irradiated with the ions of helium with energies of EHe+ = 0.12 МeV or EHe+ = 4 МeV. The change in the structure of surface defects was investigated. It was found that the flecking processes proceed five times more efficiently than the blistering processes. It was also found that during the formation of tungsten “fluff”, the thickness of separate filaments is three times less than the height. The coefficients of ionization, phonon production and vacancy appearance were calculated using mathematical modeling methods. The coefficients were found on the penetration depth of ions of helium. The total coefficients of displacements were found depending on energy of irradiation.
