Abstract

A digital twin is a virtual copy of a physical object or system that enables the modeling of processes and analysis of the behavior of a real prototype. This article covers a wide range of topics related to digital twins, from digital twin concepts to practical examples and prospects in various industries and economic sectors. This article presents research by Russian scientists that contributes significantly to the understanding of digital twins and their application in various economic sectors, particularly higher education, forming the basis for continued study and adaptation of this technology in Russia. A review of existing developments confirms that the digital twin concept holds enormous potential for transforming various industries. Incorporating it into the educational process and establishing "digital learning factories" will enable the virtual practice of acquired skills, increasing the effectiveness of each student in a production environment. However, despite the successes achieved, a number of significant barriers remain to the widespread adoption of digital twins. These include high costs, complex data integration, scalability issues, and privacy risks.
