Structural factors influencing the development of tourism startups in Algeria
Abstract
The tourism sector in Algeria holds significant potential for economic growth, job creation, and local development. In recent years, tourism startups have emerged as key drivers of innovation, offering digital solutions and innovative services that enhance the country’s competitiveness as a tourist destination. However, these startups face structural challenges that hinder their growth, including complex legal and administrative procedures, limited financial resources, inadequate infrastructure, and low adoption of digital marketing technologies. This study examines the structural factors affecting the development of tourism startups in Algeria and assesses their impact on entrepreneurial growth and sectoral development. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the research draws on a review of literature, government reports, official statistics, and interviews with entrepreneurs. Findings reveal that legal, financial, infrastructural, and technological constraints significantly limit startup effectiveness and expansion. Comparative analysis with international models, including Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey, and South Africa, highlights best practices in regulatory support, financing, infrastructure, and digital innovation. The study concludes with practical recommendations for policymakers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to foster a supportive ecosystem that promotes sustainable growth and competitiveness for tourism startups in Algeria.
