Eosinophilic granuloma in a dog – case report
Abstract
Eosinophilic granuloma is a rare mucocutaneous condition. It has a breed predilection for Siberian Huskies and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. The average age range is 5 to 6 years. The etiology is uncertain, but there is an association with allergic and genetic conditions. It is characterized by plaque-like lesions and nodules on the skin and oral cavity. Diagnosis is based on the animal’s history, clinical manifestations, lesion characteristics, cytological examination, and histopathological examination. The recommended treatment is corticosteroids. The prognosis is good when the underlying cause is identified. This study reports the occurrence of three granulomas located on the soft palate in a five-year-old male pug, confirmed by histopathological examination and treated with prednisolone alone. The objective of this report is to characterize the macroscopic and histological lesions observed in the oral cavity of a dog, compare with other injuries, and discuss the clinical therapeutic approach.
