Abstract

The management of solid medical waste in hospitals is closely related to occupational safety and health efforts. Poor behavior by cleaning service staff will increase the risk of workplace accidents and disease transmission. Comprehensive and sustainable medical waste management efforts are needed. The purpose of this study was to determine the causes of solid medical waste management behavior among cleaning service staff at Serang District Hospital. This study used a cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted from November to December 2025. The population in this study consisted of all cleaning service staff. The sample in this study consisted of a total population of 46 respondents. Univariate and bivariate data analysis was performed. The results showed that cleaning service workers had solid medical waste management behavior in the good category at 67.4%, but there was still poor behavior at 32.6%. There was a significant relationship between education (p value = 0.009), length of service (p value = 0.46), knowledge (p value = 0.000), attitude (p value = 0.000), completeness of PPE use (p value = 0.002), and internal supervision (p value = 0.001) on the behavior of solid medical waste management among cleaning service workers at the Serang District Hospital. Educational efforts are needed through comprehensive training and continuous internal supervision in order to improve hospital medical waste management in the future
