Abstract

This study aims to develop a customized co-curricular support matrix tailored to each stage of students' major planning process at Korean universities. With the growing demand for studentcentered and flexible major design systems-such as flexible major selection tracks, interdisciplinary majors, and self-designed majors-universities face new challenges. There is a clear need for a structured support system that systematically addresses the processes of major exploration, planning, execution, and refinement.Based on Super's career development theory, Holland's theory of personality types, and Fouad's theory of career decision-making levels, this study conceptualizes the major planning journey in four stages: exploration, planning, execution, and refinement. For each stage, corresponding support components were identified.Using a qualitative case analysis methodology, the study examined non-curricular program data from major planning support centers at major Korean universities. As a result, a practical matrix was developed encompassing stage-specific advising, program types, information resources, and interdepartmental collaboration.Furthermore, the study visualized a process map showing the interconnections among the stages to highlight structural and developmental coherence. The findings provide practical guidelines for universities to build integrated co-curricular strategies and academic advising systems that reflect students' major planning journeys. The study also offers theoretical and policy implications for enhancing support frameworks in the context of higher education.
