Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore and develop Assessment Plan for Elementary Music Education based on the assessment perspective of the internationally recognized IB PYP(International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme). To this end, principles for designing primary school music assessments were first established, grounded in the characteristics of music assessment and the IB assessment perspective. The design principles are: strengthening the integrated linkage between instruction and assessment; a valid and balanced approach to formative and summative assessment according to the timing and purpose of assessment; fostering students' assessment competence; and providing performance tasks linked to real-world contexts with clear criteria.Based on these principles, examples were provided for unit outlines linked to primary music assessment, performance tasks and rubrics, teaching and learning activities, and assessment strategies and tools. This study provides significant implications for assessment closely linked to concept-based inquiry lessons, the expansion of learning meaning through assessment, assessment strategies for enhancing students' assessment competence, and learning communities for teachers' assessment expertise. This study is significant in that it expands the discourse on music assessment and concretises the assessment direction envisaged by the 2022 revised curriculum within the context of music education. It does so by presenting assessment design principles and concrete implementation strategies suitable for primary music education, grounded in the assessment perspective of the IB PYP.
