The Influence of Electromagnetic Radiation on the Human Organism Across SDG
Abstract
Study Objective: The aim of the article is to familiarize the public with the basic issues related to the effects of electromagnetic fields on the human body and the associated potential health risks within the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study also seeks to clarify how modern technologies using electromagnetic radiation affect daily life and human health. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical section is based on physical knowledge of electromagnetic fields, including their wavelength, frequency, and intensity. It distinguishes between ionizing radiation (e.g., X-rays, gamma rays), which has proven destructive effects, and non-ionizing radiation (e.g., radio waves, microwaves, infrared, and visible light), which can cause thermal or biological effects depending on its intensity and frequency. Method: A quantitative research method was used—specifically, a questionnaire survey conducted among university students. Respondents answered questions about mobile phone use, daily duration of use, awareness of electromagnetic field effects, and habits related to the use of electronic devices. The results were processed in tabular form and evaluated according to the frequency of responses. Results and Discussion: The results showed that all respondents use a mobile phone, most of them keep it switched on during sleep, and they primarily use it for searching information and reading emails. The majority of respondents are aware of the possible side effects of electromagnetic radiation but have not studied the topic in depth. The study confirms that the issue of biological effects of electromagnetic radiation remains relevant and requires further scientific investigation. Research Implications: The research highlights the need to increase public awareness about the impact of electromagnetic fields and to promote the development of technologies that minimize human exposure. It also contributes to the achievement of SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being by encouraging healthier lifestyles and preventing the negative health impacts of modern technology. Originality / Value: The paper provides an original connection between the issue of electromagnetic radiation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It offers empirical data on mobile technology use among young people and emphasizes the importance of rational device usage. The paper also provides practical recommendations for reducing exposure and encourages discussion about the safety of modern technologies.
