Abstract

The occupational seasonality and segregation of women are particularly acute in the slums of Delhi. Women play the twin role of homemaker and caregiver; therefore, it makes it more difficult for them to get employed outside their hometowns, as they will not be able to fulfill all their tasks in such a situation. They suffer from the fluctuation of job opportunities with the changing seasons and low-paid and unstable jobs. Such irregularity of income greatly affects their nutritional status and well-being. Inadequate healthcare, inadequate education, and restricted income are all influenced by gender inequality. This empirical study analyses how nutrition, occupational seasonality, and labour segregation, issues affect the nutritional and standard of living of women in the slums of Delhi.
