Condición de seguridad y salud laboral e impacto en el ausentismo de docentes de Educación Física y deporte en el caribe colombiano
Abstract
Objective. To characterize occupational health and safety conditions and their impact on absenteeism among physical education, recreation, and sports teachers in the Colombian Caribbean. Methodology. This study follows a descriptive, quantitative, and correlational research design. It explores the phenomenon of absenteeism in 1,413 physical education, recreation, and sports teachers across the eight departments of the Colombian Caribbean coast. Occupational absenteeism events were collected between 2024 and 2025. Working conditions prone to generating absenteeism among these educators were identified. Using a non-experimental design, the study sought to explain phenomena within the teaching context by analyzing observed conditions without modification. The project's purpose was executed through an analysis of a database profiled by occupational absenteeism events in the eight Caribbean coast departments. Results. The department of Atlántico at 35.9% (507 out of 1,413), Bolívar at 22.5% (318 out of 1,413), and Cesar at 22.9% (324 out of 1,413) were the three departments in the Caribbean region with the highest reported occupational absenteeism among physical education and sports teachers. The strongest relationship indicated a moderate and highly significant negative correlation between "type of absenteeism" and "total days of absence" (r = -0.257, p < 0.001). A strong negative correlation was also found between "type of absenteeism" and "area/process" (approximately -0.35). Conclusion. Strong relationships were identified regarding days of absence; specifically, the variables "total days of absence" and "days assumed by the company" are strongly and positively correlated with each other.
