Abstract

HistoryThis study evaluated the potential of brewers dried yeast as an alternative protein source to soybean meal in growing pig diets.Forty large white growing pigs with initial weight of 5-15kg were randomly distributed into four treatment groups designated as treatment I, II, III, and IV respectively. Each treatment group was replicated five times with two pigs per replicate, giving rise to 10 pigs (5 males and 5 females) per treatment.0.0%, 2.5%, 5.0%, and 7.5% of brewers dried yeast were given to treatment I, II, III, and IV.Respectively for a period of 8weeks.Results showed that female pigs in treatment II (2.5% inclusion) demonstrated superior performance with the highest average weekly weight gain of 2.38kg and best protein efficiency ratio of 2.11 compared to the control in all the treatments of male, female and combined average weight.Feed conversion ratios were significantly higher in the female pigs in treatment 1 (2.76) and treatment II (2.80).Treatment IV recorded the highest dry matter intake (5.92%).Gender differences were significant (P
