Abstract

Academic and career visibility has emerged as a vital determinant of scholarly recognition, collaboration, and professional advancement most especially in the digital era. Meanwhile, digital technologies and social media have served as useful tools for projecting academic and career visibility among scholars. However, the extent of use of these tools for visibility projection among scholars varies from one context to another. Also, there has not been much studies on the extent of use of the digital technologies and platforms for visibility projection among scholars. This paper explores the transformative role of digital technologies, social media, and open-access platforms in reshaping traditional models of scholarly communication and professional networking. Employing a narrative review methodology, the study synthesises literature on four foundational pillars of scholarly publishing, digital profiling, professional networking, and academic branding. Findings highlights the persistent visibility challenges faced by scholars, particularly in developing contexts like Nigeria, due to technological limitations, institutional neglect, and digital illiteracy. The paper argues for an integrated visibility strategy that synergises publishing, profiling, and networking to maximise research impact. It concludes with practical recommendations for scholars, institutions, and funding bodies aimed at fostering a more inclusive, visible, and globally impactful academic community, especially within African higher education systems.
