Abstract

Historic letter with precise epidemiological and clinical description of the Ebola epidemic in Yambuku (Democratic Republic of Congo) in 1976, written by one of the early deadly victims On October 2, 1976, the author of this article received a written emergency call by post from one of the early victims of the historic Ebola epidemic in Yambuku, a locality in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The author of the letter died in the evening of the same October 2, as a victim of Ebola. The description of the epidemic by the victim corresponds well with other descriptions. It is likely that in the known history of medicine, never a new disease has been described so precisely and quickly by one of the early victims. Therefore this letter could be considered as a historic document, worth publishing.
