Abstract

Emotional Intelligence (EI) represents one of the most profound and uniquely human abilities- an essential skill set that allows individuals to perceive, understand, regulate, and express emotions in ways that foster interpersonal connection, effective communication, and adaptive decision-making. In the contemporary digital era, where artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming industries and reshaping social interactions, Emotional Intelligence emerges as a crucial human superpower that remains beyond the full grasp of machines. This chapter explores the multifaceted dimensions of emotional intelligence, emphasizing its evolutionary, psychological, and neurobiological roots. It situates EI within the context of an AI-driven world, arguing that although AI systems are being equipped increasingly with affective computing capabilities such as emotion recognition and response- these remain limited to being surface-level rather than authentic emotional understanding.
