Abstract

This paper explores the intersection of Learning and Development (L&D) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its growing impact on education, workforce development, and organizational strategy. Drawing on foundational learning theories, it highlights learning as an active, non-linear, and personalized process and emphasizes the need for strategic, technology-enabled L&D models such as self-directed, competency-based, and blended learning. The study examines how AI is reshaping higher education through personalized instruction and enhanced institutional practices, while also addressing the psychological dimensions of adaptability, including optimism, self-efficacy, resilience, and growth mindset. It identifies key research gaps—ethical governance, educator identity, non-cognitive skills, employee well-being, AI-related identity threats, and fragmented policy responses—and proposes a human-centred framework that integrates ethical leadership, emotional intelligence, and collaboration with AI capabilities to support individual flourishing, lifelong learning, and sustainable organizational performance in a digitally disrupted world.
