Abstract

Gender is a significant aspect of the mainstream discourse on globalization, economic growth, policy making and development. In this context International Year of Millets 2023 (IYM 23) has touched upon lives of women from varied perspectives. The broad areas include access to information, food, market, training and especially participation in millet farming. In different states of India IYM 2023 was formulated as a policy initiative to realize the goals for Sustainable Development and secure future. It is thus important to understand the gender perspective for this policy and how women are located in this policy measure both as producers and consumers. This paper tries to look into “International Year of Millets 2023” in Uttrakhand from Gender perspective. It follows policy appraisal, introspection and analysis of gender-disaggregated data. This paper analyses data collected in four districts of Uttrakhand (Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal & Almora) for ICSSR funded short term empirical research titled “Impact of Year of Millets 2023 in select areas of Uttrakhand”.
