Abstract

This article presents part of the results of a broader research project "Comparative Study on Initial Teacher Training in Basic Education in Mexico and France," coordinated by Ducoing and Pérez-Roux (2020). For this publication, the focus has been on exploring a central question: what does being a teacher mean for future teachers in training at Mexican normal schools? Based on a common questionnaire administered online and semi-structured interviews with normal school students who pursued different degree programs in various states under the 2018 curriculum, the question seeks to explore the construction of corporate ethos and professional habitus. Among the results obtained, meanings linked to the transmission of disciplinary knowledge stand out, and to a lesser extent, the construction of the student as a person and the pleasure of learning under professional orientations centered on didactics and the classroom.
