Dificultades de los estudiantes de Ingeniería en el primer año universitario
Abstract
This article addresses the difficulties perceived by first-year engineering students at the Autonomous University of Mexico City. Through qualitative and quantitative empirical research, factors related to dropout and academic failure were analyzed, and academic difficulties were identified and ranked using the concept of cultural capital. Additionally, students' strategies for overcoming these obstacles and their study habits were examined. This research corroborates the convergence of conditions that limit exclusive academic dedication and insufficient educational preparation marked by a deficit in critical academic skills and habits, coexisting with obstacles related to ineffective teaching practices. The findings suggest the absence of a comprehensive institutional classroom-centered strategy; therefore, this research can contribute to designing interventions that promote academic success.
