Green Supply Chain Integration in Product Design
Abstract
Growing global concern over environmental degradation has shifted industrial practices from traditional production models to sustainable and resource-efficient approaches. Green Supply Chain Integration (GSCI) focuses on embedding environmental considerations into every stage of a product’s lifecycle—from material sourcing to end-of-life recycling. The role of product design is particularly significant because nearly 80% of environmental impact is determined during the design phase. Eco- friendly product design supported by green supply chain strategies helps reduce waste, minimize carbon emissions, and enhance recyclability while improving operational efficiency and customer preference. This paper investigates the importance of green supply chain integration in product design, analyzes recent industrial adoption outcomes, evaluates benefits and challenges, and explores technologies enabling sustainable product innovation. The results indicate strong improvements in environmental performance, cost efficiency, and consumer acceptance. Challenges such as high initial investment, supplier readiness, and technological limitations are discussed along with strategic recommendations for future development.
