Abstract

LSU Health - Shreveport (LSUHS) will transition from a discovery-driven institution with episodic translational activity to a coordinated research translation enterprise that proactively solicits and evaluates high-potential discoveries and advances prioritized innovations toward commercialization and measurable impact. The goal of this project is to establish durable translational governance that applies standardized technical, regulatory, and market readiness criteria; aligns intellectual property decisions with defined advancement thresholds; and connects prioritized innovations to structured external funding and commercialization pathways. Over the three-year ACT period, LSUHS will embed innovation harvesting, milestone-based evaluation, regulatory pathway planning, and IP stewardship into routine research operations, progressing from RTRL 2–3 toward sustained translational maturity through scalable and reproducible systems. Through this structured approach, research translation becomes the disciplined advancement of discovery into validated clinical, societal, and economic outcomes.
